Neonicotinoids are an acetylcholine-interfering neurotoxic class of insecticides that are utilized in a variety of venues ranging from veterinary medicine, urban landscaping, and use in many agricultural systems as agents of crop protection. They can be applied by multiple methods as foliar sprays to above-ground plants, as root drenches to the soil, or as trunk injections to trees. However, it is estimated that approximately 60 % of all neonicotinoid applications globally are delivered as seed/soil treatments
