This map is a fine analysis of the distribution of the main agricultural uses of the country’s land base. The map was created by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network to show Livelihood Zones, which are defined as “geographic areas in which households obtain their basic survival needs, notably food and cash income, in relatively similar ways”. The map defines 11 such zones and shows the proportion of land that is occupied by these various agricultural livelihood uses. The Famine Early Warning Systems Network research helped to identify the level of pressures from various sources on these zones and the impacts on agriculture and human well-being.
