Source: James, L. M. (2015). Fields of control: Oil and (In)Security in Sudan and South Sudan. Geneva: Small Arms Survey, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

South Sudan’s oil industry is constrained by the fact that the refining capacity, oil pipeline and export infrastructure are in the north, far from the reserves themselves. The oil pipelines extend from the oil fields to Port Sudan.
