Blue Flag sites

This dataset, released by the Blue Flag programme, run by the Foundation for Environmental Education, shows the geographic location of Blue Flag awarded sites all over the world.

The dataset contains data for Blue Flag awarded beaches, marinas, and tourism boats. In order to qualify for the award, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety-related and access-related criteria must be met and maintained. The Blue Flag award has a maximum duration of one year before having to be renewed, and is raised during the Blue Flag season of each site. Applicants are assessed during the International Evaluation rounds, held twice a year, once per Hemisphere. The decision on whether to approve or reject applicants is taken by the International Jury, composed of all the relevant and independent stakeholders which partake in the Blue Flag programme and sites. The Blue Flag can be withdrawn in case non-compliances are detected on-site.

When available, data include the address, management body and website of the awarded Blue Flag entity. For additional information on the sites, please visit the www.blueflag.global [https://www.blueflag.global/] website.

In its current version, the dataset contains data for 48 countries and comprises 4899 entries (season 2022 for Northern Hemisphere sites, season 2021/2022 for Southern Hemisphere sites). Please, note that one entry can include several awarded sites.
