The fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on mercury (INC5) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 13 to 18 January 2013.

On Saturday, 19 January 2013, in the early morning, Governments agreed to the text of a global legally binding instrument on mercury and gave birth to the “Minamata Convention on Mercury”.
