Sixth meeting of the expert working group on environmentally sound management

At its sixth meeting, the expert working group on environmentally sound management (ESM) is expected to finalize the work undertaken by the group under its 2016-2017 work programme. It includes consideration of comments received and finalization of the draft guidance on prevention and minimization, as well as the draft practical manuals on extended producer responsibility and financing. The group will also consider the progress achieved in implementing the various pilot projects on environmentally sound management, including the two newly selected pilot projects to test the draft manuals and fact sheets, and select two additional pilot projects for implementation in 2017. Finally, the meeting will discuss and develop a recommendation to the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties on the future role of the expert working group, including its 2018-2019 work programme in case of a renewed mandate. The Governments of Germany and Japan are kindly funding the sixth face-to-face meeting of the expert working group. The meeting has been organized by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and will kindly be hosted by the Government of Belgium.
