1st Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazu Agreement

The Escazú Agreement is the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was adopted in Escazú, Costa Rica, on 4 March 2018, and entered into force on 22 April 2021. It will hold its 1st meeting of the Conference of the Parties in Santiago de Chile, from 20 to 22 April 2022.

After the recognition of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment by the Human Rights Council in October 2021, this meeting is a further step in strengthening everyone’s ability to act to protect ecosystems and to respond to the challenge of the major environmental crises.
