One Earth One Ocean (OEOO) Microplastic Pollution Map

One Earth – One Ocean e.V.’s Microplastic Pollution Map is the first interactive world map to document the nature and extent of marine pollution through microplastics.

In order to obtain up-to-date raw data on the pollution levels with microplastic in the waters, water samples of the North Sea, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean are currently being collected regularly. OEOO has been cooperating with the shipping line OPDR from Hamburg since 2013, whose ships sail on fixed routes between Northern Europe and Africa. These samples are analyzed for their chemical composition by OEOO in their own laboratory using a FTIR spectrometer. The results have been incorporated into the oeoo database since 2013 and are available to the public on this interactive world map, which our partner PHAT Consulting from Hamburg has technically implemented for us. The association is looking for cooperation partners in order to collect data from water samples wherever possible.
