Rain Forest Regeneration and Management

Some two weeks after the formal opening of the dam, Guri was the venue for an international workshop on rain forest regeneration and management. The workshop was concerned with the interface between research and management and was aimed at exploring the implications to management of present scientific knowledge on rain forest regeneration. In addition to producing a synthesis of scientific information on rain forest regeneration, subsidiary aims were to identify gaps in information and understanding, In respect to both scientific hypotheses and the needs of management, and to explore directions for future collaborative research and action. The intention was not to prepare an encyclopedic or comprehensive literature review. Rather, the workshop was concerned with the review of selected technical issues and ecological processes within the context of management.
