Green Economy Scoping Study in Belarus: Summary of Results

This study identifies and assesses the impacts of green investments in key sectors in support of a transition to a green economy. The Government of Belarus has actively sought the implementation of sustainable measures in the energy and renewable energy sectors through various policies and programmes. The government has also pursued a path toward a green economy since 2004, and its newest national direction, National Strategy for Sustainable Socio-economic Development 2030, sets out green economy priorities for the country. For the short term (2016-2020), the strategy focuses on structural and institutional investments to support a green economy transition, while for the mid-term (2021-2030) it seeks to foster human development by investing in human capital via knowledge-intensive industries and services. The benefits of shifting to a green economy are well aligned with the country’s long-term development goals, as highlighted in a number of Belarus sectoral strategies.
