Referring to the disturbance or reduction in light transmittance in water resulting from suspended, colloidal or dissolved matter or the presence of planktonic organisms.; Estimation of the degree of transparency or opaqueness of the water due to suspended particles and sediments.; Presence of fine visible material in suspension in a liquid which is not of sufficient size to be seen as individual particles but which prevents the passage of light through the liquid.; In light-scattering measurements, the turbidity is the measure of the decrease in incident beam intensity per unit length of a given suspension.
