URL: https://wesr-staging.azurewebsites.net/glossary/ajax/ajax.searchalloccurance.php?q=910
The breakdown of contaminants taken up by plants by metabolic processes within the plant. Alternatively, the term is also applied to the breakdown of contaminant, external to the plant, by compounds or enzymes produced by, and released from, the plant. In both cases, the primary treatment mechanism is plant uptake and metabolism. Degradation caused by micro-organisms associated with the plant root is considered rhizodegradation.
