Physical Exposure To Tsunamis

This dataset includes an estimation of the annual physical exposure to tsunamis. It is based on three sources: 1) a comprehensive list of reports and scientific papers compiled and utilized in producing tsunami hazard maps as well as finding return periods of future events; 2) applying numerical tsunami models and zooming on selected areas; and 3) a population grid for the year 2010 (provided by LandScanTM Global Population Database, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, USA). The unit of reference is the expected average annual population (2010 as the year of reference) exposed (inhabitants).

This product was designed by the International Centre for Geohazards (NGI) for the Global Assessment Report on Risk Reduction (GAR). The dataset was was modelled using global data.
