Number of people exposed to floods with a return period of 25 years

The data layers used to the number of people exposed to floods are included in this platform and available here [https://risque-niger.unepgrid.ch/]. They include: • Administrative boundaries (source: National Institute of Geography of Niger, 2018) • Flood hazards for different return periods 25-50-100-200-500 and 1000 years (source: UNEP/GRID-Geneva, 2018) • Population distribution - people per 100m x 100m cell (source: UNEP/GRID-Geneva, 2018) The following steps were taken to obtain the number of people exposed to floods for each department: 1. Harmonization of data layers in the same cell size and geographical projection system. 2. Reclassification of the water level according to damage and danger for people and infrastructure 3. Calculation of population exposure to floods with a different return period and water depth greater than or equal to 120 cm (in agreement with LCFRAMS, 2018 [http://www.lee.cfram.com/floodhazardmapping .html ]) 4. Cumulative exposure results at the departmental level. Geoprocesses carried out by A. M. Mudaqiq, UNEP/GRID-Geneva
