Green List Initiative protected areas in 2020 (MSSD indicator 9)

The development of the UICN Green List aims to provide an accurate framework for protected area’s management. In 2019, 7 protected areas from North Africa were proposed for the Green List of Protected Areas (2 in Morocco; 2 in Algeria; 3 in Tunisia). source_abstract The IUCN Green List is one of the flagship initiatives included in the MSSD to measure the effectiveness of the protected areas management in the Mediterranean region. The IUCN ‘Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas’ (GLPCA) is a global programme to encourage, achieve and promote effective, equitable and successful protected and conserved areas. To be added to the Green List, protected and conserved areas have to show that they meet the indicators of the GLPCA Standard by means of an independent evaluation.
